Micro-lending for Women by Kailey Steele
Can you imagine growing up and being force to leave school at the age of 12? Where school is the only place you are allowed to be free and have fun with your friends without worrying about food, shelter and safety. Many young girls in third world countries are forced to leave school at a very young age in order to help with the family. In these countries women's jobs are to take care of the family and prepare food. They do not get any say in the important things that go on in their community. These young girls are then forced to sell their bodies in order to support their family. Selling their body leads them to diseases like HIV/AIDS and eventually getting pregnant and passing these diseases down to their children. The cycle just keeps gaining momentum. Why not stop this cycle? If we give women a goat or a cow they are then able to use this animal to help profit not only their family but the community. They will grow wealthier and their cow or goat will become a herd, they will be able to feed the whole village. This power will give them the ability to hopefully have a say in their community. These women will THRIVE!
