The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for which we live. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men. ––Martin Luther King

konstantin letuchy super sad true review
Reading a "super sad true love story" I noticed a theme developed about how easily information is accessed about people. In the first posts of Lenny's diary he discusses what he did in Rome, and the people he met while he was over there for work. he mentions that he meets people at parties, and is instantly able to find out information about them, job, age, name, where there from. In a world of technology this empowers the people with their "aparat"(which means device in russian) by giving citizens access to information about everyone and everything. Lenny uses this to find info on Eunice a girl he meets at one of those parties he went to, on his plane ride back he finds out everything about her, age, where shes from , parents, sisters, he was able to basically stalk her (pg 38). Gary Shteyngart's narrative interpretation of what current society is going through is spot on. Most of us now have an "aparat" like a laptop, i-phone, tablet, blackberry, droid. we can easily access information about each other with the use of Google and Facebook. from personal experience i can say that i have used my "aparat" to look up information on people standing right next to me. Freaky to know that there is so much information out there on us today, to more and more we sign up for things the more information the internet has on us, and it will never go away once it is in, we will be remembered for ever on the internet. Then later in the story information is used to make people feel bad or uncomfortable (pg221). Joshie calls Lenny by his nick name "rhesus monkey". Eunice looks it up on her "aparat" and find outs in an instant that Lenny looks like a monkey, making him feel less powerful, like a worker, or a slave, some on in a monkey suit who does lots of work for little credit. A few pages later he brings it up again, he now feel diminished of the effort he made for him self to impress Eunice.
